    Exactly same issue here. Sometimes it just a matter of engaging the blades and poof..chug chug Im dead. 😡 Ive been told not to run ethanol gas, but it was to late I had already killed mine. Im guessing ethanol gas gummed up my carburetor. (Ive already replaced everything else. ) so Ill be draining fuel (cause now i dont know whats in it other then 3 yrs age😒) and a new filter just because. Fingers crossed it changes things cause im to old to be walking behind 24” all summer😩. Thanks for this vid….looks easy to follow. (Later…gotta go cut grass rite now🤦🏻‍♀️🤣)

      Ethanol is fine as long as you don’t leave it sit unused like over winter. It absorbs moisture and will cause corrosion. I always run straight gas in my small engines and also put Stabil in my 2 cycle gas because I don’t use it up very fast. Good luck.

    I see you notch cells with eggs instead of larve. To me that seems much easier and makes more sense than trying to select the proper size larve. But... some people say the bees won't make queen cells from the eggs it has to be 24 hour old larve. Which is correct and have you had any problems with notching cells with eggs as opposed to small larve.

    • @JeromeBeeFarm

      I don’t recall. The candle molds will recommend wick size. It’s based on the diameter of the candle. If you look on the Mann Lake site and find the mold, it’s on the mold description what wick to purchase with it. Hope that helps.

      @@JeromeBeeFarm I have one of their original ordered before even went into production and then had to wait huge length of time before they delivered. Way too heavy and cumbersome to use and huge space waster (vs hive body) and I'd be concerned when using in the sun of it turning into a solar wax melter... I'd never purchase one now knowing what I know... Just not worth the money they are asking no matter how they promote it. Just my 2 cents. Jester Box more versatile. Also use them if I'm inspecting a hive and find frames with queen cells... isolate all the frames with cells in the Jester until I've assessed the situation and know my game plan... keeps frames from being shifted, moved and pulled multiple times.

    I use small livestock ear tags (attach with a screw) to the lids at the back (since that's where I work from). Got them at Tractor Supply - yellow with black numbering. I'll take six of those robber screens please!

    • @nancynolton6079
      @nancynolton6079 4 дні тому

      @@JeromeBeeFarm I've had mine for 10 years and they are holding up very well. I tend to put the tags on the lids on the back of the hive since that is were I'm working from and take notes. I can unscrew a number if I change lids/setups. On the other hand if you used a cup hooks you could have the tags hanging and removable/changeable. My tags relate to the queen not the hive position so not in any kind of sequential order although they were at the beginning! Tags are yellow with black numbers and I do not use the back clip.

      Hey Kathy, yeah, I'm going to see what those ones at Tractor Supply look like. Supposedly has pre-made numbers as well. Unfortunately, all 3 of these queens failed from heat damage. They all laid a bit, and then disappeared and started emergency queen cells. Several folks commented last video that the heat will damage the queens even though they survive and they won't lay, or lay a bit and dissapear, which is what happened to all 3 of these queens. I contacted Wildflower Meadows, and they sent me 3 new ones and I installed them Wednesday 6/19 and all have been released.

      Hey Patrick! Yes, she looked good, but failed shortly thereafter. All 3 queens did in fact. They survived the shipping, but the heat damaged their bee lady parts, so they didn't make it. Fortunately, wildflower Meadows sent me 3 new ones and they got installed Wednesday. These were in much better condition. I have some cucumber peels I froze for the wormies. I'm assuming that's a slow food. (Along with a lot of strawberry tops). I side dressed all my tomatoes with the 5 gal plus of castings this week as well. Take care and stay cool!

    I'd be surpised if Wildflower Meadows doesnt replace that queen. They get alot of visability on your channel. Why is the queen a blue dot? That is next years color. BTW, that style of queen cage will open up wide for a direct release. You open the small door, then the part with the candy will open.

      @JeromeBeeFarm 13 днів тому

      Hey Patrick! Can never pass up a good "Airplane" movie reference. lol The pissy hive was very strong and out in western oklahoma, where they were having a drought. They had very little food and were very defensive. I took out four frames of brood (baby bees), and added a honey box to them to weaken them so they wouldn't swarm. Unknowingly, I had gotten their queen when I pulled those other frames out and took them home with me. Being queenless and messed with recently, they were off the chart angry, and my brother in law went out there 3 days later with his lawn mower and got attacked. He jumped off the mower, ran to his truck, and drove off with them stinging him. lol So, they said, please take these bees away from there, so I brought them home to my place. They have calmed down a lot since then. There's a video 3 or 4 back that shows me inspecting that hive out west that day. It was CRAZY!. LOL Thanks for watching!

  • @phillee2814
    @phillee2814 13 днів тому

    Even before you said it, I thought that that "pissy" hive was much less so, and therefore probably queenright. It really makes a difference to their temperament. I worry that your overheated queen may be sterile from the heat. Heat will kill off anything in her spermatheca well before it kills the queen. I think I'd have used the other two ahead of her after you saved one on the ex-pissy hive. It is worth calling Wildflower Meadows, as they will probably put in a carrier claim - UPS carry enough queens that they should know how to treat them right, and you collected them as soon as they called you, even though you forgot to check their website - them not calling you is on them. I wouldn't worry about them spreading the brood area with nectar in hot and humid weather, as it'll condense down as they dehumidify it, and they have to spread it out as much as they can to maximise the surface area. They'll polish cells as soon as they have a laying queen, ahead of her laying them up.

    • @JeromeBeeFarm
      @JeromeBeeFarm 13 днів тому

      Hey Phil. I had checked back on that oily queen two days later and she was in there and looked fine. I followed up a couple days after that and she was gone. This weekend, I've read your comment, and checked a third time and she's still not there, and I checked the other two hives and those queens are nowhere to be found, and no signs of them. I think you are right and they were definitely heat damaged. I sent an email to Wildflower Meadows explaining the situation. We'll see what they say. Thanks for the info. It's very helpful. I've never seen this before.
